(CBS) Jeff Probst is hoping to outwit, outplay and outlast on daytime television.
The “Survivor” host has inked a deal with CBS Television Distribution to develop a first-run talk show slated to debut in fall 2012.
Pictures: “Survivor: Redemption Island”
The one-hour show will cover topics ranging from newsmakers of the day to families and individuals facing challenges.
“I’m fascinated with human nature and thrilled that this show will allow me the opportunity to connect with real people and explore their stories on a personal level,” Probst said in a release. “As I continue with ‘Survivor,’ I am excited to extend my relationship with CBS with this new adventure in the world of daytime.”
“Anyone who has seen Jeff on ‘Survivor’ knows how he connects with people, and has an instinct that makes him a natural and compelling host for daytime. With the same adventure Jeff approaches his own life, the show will take the same path. Whether it’s a newsmaker-of-the-day, a celebrity or ordinary folks, Jeff will go further than typical discussion. The show will cover a range of topics from relationships to human interest. And like Jeff, the show will encourage action, change and discovery. We are very fortunate to have him,” added Aaron Meyerson, president of Programming and Development for CTD.
Probst has hosted all 22 seasons of “Survivor,” and is a regular fill-in for Regis Philbin on “Live with Regis and Kelly.”
He’s not the only one setting his sights on a new daytime talk show for next fall, The Hollywood Reporter notes. Katie Couric has signed a deal with ABC, Ricki Lake is collaborating with Twentieth TV and Bethenny Frankel is working with Ellen DeGeneres on a Telepictures-produced show.

The City of Fairfax is bringing back cameras used to catch drivers who run red lights.
WTOP-FM Radio reports the cameras will begin operating at two big intersections — Fairfax Circle, and University Drive and North Street — on July 1.
The City of Fairfax was one of several northern Virginia communities that used the cameras until a pilot program expired in 2005. The program was reauthorized by the Virginia General Assembly in 2007.
Fairfax County Police Sgt. Dan Grimm says the cameras proved effective when they were last used. He says authorities saw a reduction in traffic accidents and red-light violations.
The fine for running a red light will be $50 beginning July 31. Warnings will be issued for the first month.

There’s never a Tardis around to whisk a girl away when she needs one.
Doctor Who star Karen Gillan could have done with just that when she reportedly got stranded naked in a hotel corridor at 7am after a night partying.
The flame-haired beauty, 23, who plays the Time Lord’s assistant Amy Pond, was allegedly found trying another guest’s door while she was on the week-long promotional junket.

One claimed Karen was “whimpering” at his door. He said: “I went to the peephole then I saw this woman naked, trying to wrap towels around her and not having much luck. She started to whimper and knock on my door.
“Seeing that she wasn’t getting anywhere, she lay down with the towels covering her.” Suzanne Leonara, another resident at New York’s Ace Hotel, said: “She looked as though she hadn’t been to bed.”
Show boss Stephen Moffatt and Matt Smith, who plays the Doctor, were also on the trip.
Last night, a spokesman for BBC Worldwide, the corporation’s commercial arm, said: “We’re unaware of this alleged incident.”
A BBC source added: “BBC Worldwide does not use licence fee income to operate – so this international publicity trip was not funded by the licence fee payer.”
Karen’s agent declined to comment.

Flames from the Las Conchas fire burn in the hills above Los Alamos National Laboratory on June 27. The fast-moving wildfire raged on Monday near the edge of the nation’s preeminent nuclear facility, Los Alamos National Laboratory, a vast complex that houses research laboratories and a plutonium facility. Authorities said there was little threat to sensitive areas of the 28,000-acre complex, where explosives are stored in underground concrete and steel bunkers.

msnbc.com news services report from LOS ALAMOS, N.M.:
Firefighters struggled early Tuesday to hold back a fierce blaze roaring out of control at the edge of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, a sprawling nuclear weapons complex that includes a plutonium facility.
Flames licked all day at the boundary of the laboratory site, home to the nation’s largest supply of nuclear weapons, as fire crews scurried to douse spot fires carried onto the grounds by winds from the leading edge of the blaze.
The laboratory was shut down, and the adjacent town of Los Alamos, home to about 12,000 people, was placed under a mandatory evacuation earlier. Continue reading.

Nancy is shocked when Andy and Shane arrive at the halfway house on ‘Weeds’, while Cathy resorts to supernatural aid on ‘The Big C’.
Showtime has debuted the new season of its two acclaimed shows, “” and “”, on Monday, June 27. Next week, both drama comedy series will return with story arcs following the leading ladies who still deal with their own problems.
On “Weeds”, Nancy Botwin is thrown for a loop when Andy and Shane show up on her doorstep while she struggles to create a new life for herself in New York. Additionally, Silas seeks to launch a state side modeling career, and Doug looks up an old friend.
On “Big C”, frustrated Cathy resorts to supernatural aid when she is not able to land a spot in the clinical trial of a new treatment by a respected oncologist (Alan Alda). Sean becomes assertive around the house while Adam capitalizes on his classmates’ sympathy about his mother’s illness.
“Weeds” and “The Big C” air every Monday at 10:00 P.M. and 10:30 P.M. respectively. The former has just cast (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) as Emma, a low-level pot dealer who gets the attention of Silas. Michelle’s character is set as a rival to ‘s Nancy.

In ‘Transformers: Dark if the Moon,’ Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington-Whitely are caught in the battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons.
Robots battle for the fate of Earth. With Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Director: Michael Bay. (2:34). PG-13: language, violence. At area theaters
“There are thinkers,” we learn in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” “and there are doers.” By any reasonable standard, Michael Bay has long since proven himself the latter. So if you’re looking for a shock-and-awe experience, the third in history’s most bombastic summer series will do the trick. There’s no arguing you’ll leave feeling like you were assaulted by an army of alien robots yourself.
Anyone hoping to engage even a single brain cell, however, is out of luck. Which is too bad, since popcorn blockbusters don’t actually have to be mind-numbingly stupid or soul-suckingly empty. (See: “Fast Five.”)
But Bay’s found his trillion-dollar formula, and he’s sticking to it. Once again our hero, Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf), finds himself in the middle of a massive battle between the Autobots (yay) and the Decepticons (boo). Before we can get there, though, we have to sit through endless exposition, in which we learn that Buzz Aldrin brought a secret Transformer weapon back from the moon. The Decepticons plan to use it to colonize our planet and revive theirs; Sam and his new girlfriend (model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) want to help the Autobots stop them.
Or something. Ehren Kruger‘s rambling screenplay seems more intent on punishing than enlightening us. While the first film found some humanity in the connection between Sam and the robots–especially his car, Bumblebee–this one brushes emotion aside like Optimus Prime dismissing rush-hour traffic. All that matters is the long, slow slog to the Chicago-set, theater-rattling finale, which seems to last about four hours.
That’s not a compliment, by the way. There’s so much potential in a Transformer, which can, after all, transform into anything. But Bay misses every opportunity to make something interesting out of his characters; instead, he’s content to spend his enormous budget on grinding destruction so generic and visually convoluted, it’s often hard to tell who we’re supposed to be rooting for. (The 3D glasses add nothing but an extra dimension to your ticket price.)
With the ongoing exception of LaBeouf and John Turturro as a former FBI agent, the actors—including Frances McDormand, Patrick Dempsey, Josh Duhamel, and John Malkovich–seem to be competing for most robotic performance. (Peter Cullen once again voices Optimus, and Leonard Nimoy voices his former mentor, Sentinel Prime.) As for Huntington-Whiteley, she makes an excellent case for the return of Megan Fox in the next installment.
And there will be another, no doubt, as soon as “Dark of the Moon” makes the money Bay anticipates. But surely next time he can find a more realistic motivation for all the carnage: if this movie is an accurate reflection of human culture, it’s hard to believe the Autobots would risk everything to save us.
Magic Moment: In the middle of the big battle, everything stops as a single building folds in half, and Sam gets closer to doom than he ever has before.

The NFL lockout is still very much underway and there is no set date for a return to professional football in this country, but that hasn’t stopped players from making headlines. The most recent star player to make waves is Terrell Owens of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Even though Terrell Owens hasn’t exactly been in the headlines as much as he has been in the past few years, T.O. made a big splash recently by undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL. Normally this wouldn’t be big news for a veteran wide receiver in the NFL, but this is T.O. and with the star wideout being 37-years-old near the end of his career and a free agent, the plot thickens.
Reportedly, the injury to Terrell Owens’ knee has been quite the mystery. The intriguing part of Owens’ injury is that he may have hurt his knee on the set of a show for VH1. If this turns out to be the case, a lot of teams around the league might throw the veteran wide receiver under the bus as he could be a big liability next season.
With that being said, Terrell Owens might struggle to sign with a new team once the league puts a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) into effect. Before last season, T.O. had the same problem before signing a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. Now that the Bengals have no intention to re-sign him, the veteran wideout will be looking for work, but might have an extremely tough time in doing so.
Not only will T.O. struggle to find work before next season, but there will be plenty of other free agent wide receivers in the mix as well like Sidney Rice, Randy Moss, Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards. With this kind of talent available, teams around the league will have no shortage of talent available at the wide receiver position.
